Michael Waldock
Born in Bermagui, New South Wales, Michael Waldock lost his sight as a teenager.
He was given a CB radio for his sixteenth birthday and began working for the Australian Volunteer Coastguard. Michael worked up to seven days a week, listening to radio signals from boats and ships in danger. He contributed to the rescue of 160 boats in 30 months.
Michael was named Young Australian of the Year in 1983.
