CCE for new and pre-service teachers

Effective practice in Civics and Citizenship Education

Effective practice in Civics and Citizenship Education: A guide for pre-service teachers provides information, teaching and learning activities, resources and links to pages on this website to enable new and pre-service teachers to develop effective practice in CCE and to achieve the following goals:

  • Understand the importance of CCE in school programs

  • Explain why CCE is on the education agenda

  • Recognise CCE as an ‘organising principle’ and core area for curriculum, pedagogy and assessment in schools

  • Develop engaging whole-school programs for CCE

  • Connect CCE to related learning areas, national priorities and quality school programs.

There are three parts to Effective practice in Civics and Citizenship Education:

  • Part 1: An overview of Civics and Citizenship Education is presented as a PowerPoint presentation

  • Part 2: Exploring Civics and Citizenship Education on the Web: CCE WebQuest for Pre-service Teachers is a self-guided task designed to extend knowledge and understanding of CCE. Part 2 is available in Effective practice in Civics and Citizenship Education.

  • Part 3: Integrating Civics and Citizenship Education across the curriculum encourages pre-service teachers to make links between CCE and other key education initiatives. Part 3 is available in Effective practice in Civics and Citizenship Education.
